Mayor Adams didn’t stop the lifeguards. He extended his unconventional recruiting tactics to health care, suggesting that any illegal immigrants claiming nursing experience should be fast-tracked into hospital positions in response to the city’s nursing crisis.
“If we had a plan that said, ‘If there is a shortage of food service workers and people who meet that criteria, we will expedite you,’ if you have nursing experience and we have a nursing shortage, we will expedite it,” Adams proposed.
