It’s no joke: Google will now let you perform “web” searches. It’s now rolling out “web” search, and in my early tests on desktop it looks like it could be a very welcome change to Google’s search engine.

If you search for Wyze cameras, you’ll now see a reminder about their lax security measures on page 2 (instead of page 3):
I’m not sure if this is an improvement for every search, partly because of Google’s mods able It works, in part because companies don’t give up on self-promotion just because you hit the “network” button. Here you can see that Google still gives itself the top ranking for “Google AR Glasses,” and its “Top Stories” box is a useful addition:

Granted, this is an answer that Google is unlikely to get wrong.
as far as I know, Order Whether you select “Web” or “All,” Google search results appear to be the same. It doesn’t block links to YouTube videos, Reddit posts, or SEO factories… and I still see (smaller!) sponsored ads from Amazon, Verkada, and Wyze weighing down my search results:
Google spokesman Ned Adriance confirmed that “Network” was just a filter that removed Google’s knowledge panel, featured snippets and shopping modules, as well as an overview of Google’s new artificial intelligence edge. “AI overviews are a feature in search, like knowledge panels or featured snippets, so they don’t show up when someone searches using web filters.
It doesn’t magically solve some of the problems facing Google’s search engine. But for those irritated by some of the company’s seemingly selfish moves, it’s a giant opt-out button and a way to preserve the spirit of the 10 Blue Links, even as Google’s AI efforts try to turn them Leave behind.

Hopefully this all works well on mobile devices as well; I haven’t seen it on mobile yet.
