Lakewood mother of five Michelle Chandler bravely confronted and subdued an assault at a Nordstrom fitting room in Lakewood on Saturday A voyeur of her privacy.
Chandler was trying on clothes in the store’s co-ed dressing room when she noticed something was wrong – a hand and a cell phone were secretly placed under a partition. The device seemed to be recording her changes.
“When I went to take these pants off, I bent over and looked over and I saw the man’s shoes, socks and his cell phone facing me,” Chandler told FOX31.
Chandler decided to take action immediately rather than wait for mall security or police who might arrive too late to catch the perpetrator. She managed to pin the suspect to the ground.
Chandler, along with store employees who came to help, held the young man down.
At one point, she restrained him with her knees while wrapping a leash around him to prevent him from moving further.
“You need to take responsibility,” Chandler said.
The Lakewood Police Department has confirmed its response to the incident. A police spokesman said: “Sadly this was legal.”
Video of Chandler’s brave confrontation has gone viral.
In the video, Chandler can be heard saying: “This is why men don’t belong in women’s dressing rooms.”
One man replied: “I couldn’t agree more.”
