WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Capitol Police arrested Jewish activists protesting U.S. navy help for Israel contained in the Capitol on Tuesday, a day earlier than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to deal with Congress.
The protesters, organized by the activist group Jewish Voice for Peace, wore pink T-shirts with the phrases “Not in our title” and “Jews say cease arming Israel.” Some held banners studying “Ceasefire now” and “Let Gaza survive”.
The protests are deliberate to coincide with a go to by Netanyahu, throughout which he’ll meet with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Jewish Voice for Peace wrote on social media: “Previously 9 months, now we have witnessed numerous horrors in Gaza, dedicated in our title and funded by our authorities.”
It was stated that 400 demonstrators attended and greater than 250 protesters had been arrested.
Police didn’t instantly announce the variety of arrests. “We inform people who find themselves getting into legally to cease or they are going to be arrested. They didn’t cease, so we’re arresting them,” a police assertion stated.
